Washington D.C. – Today, the End Chinese Dominance of Electric Vehicles in America Act of 2024 and the Expedited Review of Products for GSP Act successfully navigated through the Ways and Means Committee. These bills, introduced by Congresswoman Carol Miller (R-WV), aim to enhance trade policies within the United States amidst what she describes as the Biden Administration’s lackluster trade strategies.
"As a member of the Ways and Means Trade Subcommittee, I am thrilled that two of my bills passed the Ways and Means Committee today. The Biden Administration has allowed China to lead on global trade initiatives for far too long, and I am eager to implement an America first trade agenda that ensures American manufacturers, businesses, and innovation thrive. These bills are vital to securing American trade priorities, and I look forward to working with Chairman Smith, along with the rest of our colleagues, to choose American taxpayers over Chinese billionaires," expressed Congresswoman Miller.
The End Chinese Dominance of Electric Vehicles in America Act of 2024 focuses on restricting Chinese access to U.S. tax dollars in the electric vehicle sector. Chairman Jason Smith praised the legislation, stating, “This bill is a major step towards fixing the loopholes in the Inflation Reduction Act that allow China and other foreign entities of concern to profit from American tax dollars. We shouldn’t be handing a blank check to those wishing to do us economic harm. I’m thankful to Rep. Miller for introducing this legislation.”
Additionally, the Expedited Review of Products for GSP Act, another initiative by Congresswoman Miller, seeks to streamline the process for adjusting products within the Generalized System of Preferences (GSP) program. Chairman of the Trade Subcommittee Adrian Smith lauded the bill, acknowledging the importance of maintaining U.S. leadership in trade matters and expressing gratitude towards Rep. Miller for her collaborative efforts.
In response to the successful advancement of her bills, Congresswoman Miller emphasized the significance of prioritizing American interests in trade policies, especially in light of China’s dominant role in global trade. She also highlighted future trade priorities, including advocating for increased trade with Ecuador and emphasizing the effectiveness of preference programs like GSP in supporting developing countries and American consumers.
The passage of these bills signifies a step towards reshaping U.S. trade policies to safeguard American interests and promote domestic innovation and manufacturing.
