Washington, D.C. – Congresswoman Carol Miller (R-WV) recently visited the YMCA of Southern West Virginia in Beckley to observe the completion of recent renovations and engage in discussions about future plans for the facility. During her visit, Congresswoman Miller met with Jay Rist, the CEO of the YMCA of Southern West Virginia, to gain insights into their collaboration with West Virginia University Institute of Technology (WVU Tech) and their efforts to expand their premises to better serve the community.
Reflecting on her tour, Congresswoman Miller expressed her satisfaction with the progress made at the YMCA, stating, "It was a pleasure touring the YMCA of Southern West Virginia. I am glad to see the finished renovations and to hear that they are working towards adding additional space for YMCA members and children after the loss of their childcare building during the COVID pandemic. The YMCA is a wonderful organization that offers various physical, social, and educational activities to their members, and I am also pleased to hear that they have partnered with West Virginia University Institute of Technology to help give back to the community."
The partnership between the YMCA of Southern West Virginia and WVU Tech aims to provide diverse activities for the Beckley community while addressing the need for expanded facilities following challenges faced during the pandemic. The commitment to enhancing services and facilities underscores the YMCA's dedication to supporting the well-being and development of its members, particularly children.
Congresswoman Miller's visit not only highlighted the importance of community partnerships and investment in local organizations but also showcased the collaborative efforts aimed at fostering growth and resilience in Southern West Virginia.
